Reiki

  What Is Reiki?

The word Reiki is derived from “rei” which is Japanese for God, Creator or Spirit. The second syllable “ki” is Japanese for Energy or Power.  Reiki is a natural healing method which involves the laying on of hands by the Reiki giver. The giver is used as a channel for the universal life force to flow through into the receiver. It balances the energies in the body and revitalizes. Reiki is a non-invasive therapy that is practiced throughout the world. It is used in private practice, in hospitals, self-care and in combination with other therapies.  It is not a religious practice nor based on faith.  We, as humans, all have this universal life force around us and within us. We are born with it. The consumption of this energy force by our daily living is normal.  However, if we cannot replenish
this energy for a prolonged period of  time, we may become ill either emotionally or physically. Reiki allows us to absorb more life energy from the Universe and heal ourselves.

What Does Reiki Do?

Reiki can help healing of all kinds.  It can relieve pains and acute symptoms quite quickly. Because it replenishes the energy that has been used up during daily life, the exhaustion and imbalance one feels can be “fixed”. Symptoms caused by stress such as headaches, digestive disorders, stomach upset etc. are due to an imbalance in our energy systems. Once energy and balance have been restored with Reiki, one can let go and relax, thereby reducing stress and the symptoms it produces. Reiki also strengthens the immune system to create a healthy body. Reiki can also affect our emotional state. During treatment the opening of channels can help one become aware of, and ultimately dissolve, negative feelings that one has had trouble with for years. Reiki can be used to complement other medical techniques and treatments. It is a safe and healing practice used worldwide.

The Seven Chakras

In Reiki treatments, there are seven main points within the energy field called chakras. In Sanskrit, the word chakra means “wheel”. The chakras use a spinning motion to regulate and distribute the life force energy into our bodies. The treatment hand positions used in reiki correspond to the body’s endocrine glandular system and the seven chakras. The chakras are connected to fine energy channels running along the spine. The first is the root chakra which is found at the base of the spine. It acts as our connection to the Earth. The energy flows through this chakra through three main distribution channels to the other chakras up to the crown chakra which is located on the top of the head. Any disturbance to the flow of the universal
life force through these points may cause disease and illness. Reiki opens these channels and promotes healing throughout the body.

The Healing Art of Reiki

Reiki is a very ancient healing method which originated in Tibet. Its founder is Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese monk who lived at the end of the nineteenth century. Dr. Usui was greatly interested in Buddhist scriptures and the power of healing. The tradition is passed on that Dr. Usui received a vision while studying at a Buddhist monastery, revealing to him the basis of all energy healing. He was shown symbols in the sky in gold, each with an accompanying mantra. He was shown how to use these symbols and place them into key Chakras within the body to open energy channels in the body and promote healing.  Dr. Usui practiced Reiki throughout his life helping many in their healing process. A few years before he died, he taught the Reiki method to Chujiro Hayashi, his successor. Dr. Hayashi opened a Reiki clinic in Tokyo. His reports show that Reiki finds the cause of the physical ailments, fills the body with needed energy for the body to restore its own health. Hawayo Takata was a young Japanese woman who went to Dr. Hayashi’s clinic to seek healing for a tumor. She was completely cured and stayed on to become a student at the clinic. After Hayashi’s death in 1941 Takata became his successor. The lineage of Reiki is very important and although there are thousands of Reiki masters all over the world, they have all been initiated through the same healing methods founded by Master Usui.
