What is Hypnosis?
| Hypnosis is described as a trance-like, altered state of consciousness during which your mind is relaxed, open and receptive to suggestions. During hypnosis your mind experiences a form of heightened imagination. At this time it is optimal for you to receive the positive suggestions needed for you to make the changes you desire. Before hypnosis can begin, a series of questions needs to be answered in order for the practitioner to find your inner motivation for change. The hypnotist gathers the information that will be used in creating the suggestions needed to perform hypnosis. The hypnotic state that is experienced is similar to daydreaming. It has often been compared to the state you feel when you are reading or watching a movie. Although while engaging in these activities you are in a conscious state, you can become unaware of your surrounding stimuli. Hypnosis is not like sleep; you are fully aware of communication and at times will be asked to respond to questions. Hypnosis is completely voluntary; there is no surrender of mind control. No one can be hypnotized if they don't want to be. |

How Does It Work?
Hypnosis is a means of communication between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. Many human problems, habits, stresses, anxieties, attitudes, or apparent deficiencies can be traced to interpretations by the subconscious mind. When these issues are understood by the conscious mind it can reduce or resolve specific problems. The subconscious is also the seat of all memory. Traumatic events can be buried or suppressed in the subconscious. A major benefit of hypnosis is its ability to uncover and bring into the light of understanding the buried information or experience which may be the cause of a troublesome problem.

| The First Session
Your first visit with your hypnotist will primarily be exploratory. You will learn about hypnotism and become comfortable with it. Your hypnotist will discuss your interests and desires to determine if hypnosis can accomplish what you want to achieve. If you both feel that it will be worthwhile to proceed, your hypnotist may give you a small test to determine your type of suggestibility, your ability to relax and your skills at visualization. These procedures will help your hypnotist adapt to you as an individual in order to design hypnotic suggestions personalized for you. These suggestions will be acceptable to your subconscious, retained and acted upon in a manner leading to full achievement of your goals.
